Winter is coming

It might not seem like it at times but winter is coming and with it, cold weather.

It is time to make sure that your furry and feathered friends have a warm, dry and comfortable place to spend their days as they wait for you to come home.

Make sure kennel doors do not face into the wind and generally kennels should be close to the back doors - that's usually where your dog wants to be waiting for some attention!! Also having a mansion for your dog might sound good but a kennel should be smaller than twice the volume of your dog. Your pets body can only heat up an area of this size, otherwise they will get cold.

Now is also the time to update your pets registration tags and make sure they have identification tags on. As the weather gets more unpredictable towards winter and we start to hurry to and from cars and in and out of our houses remember to double check that your doors and gates are closed properly and that it latches properly - gates blow open in the wind. Make sure that the hole in the yard near the fence hasn't got bigger due to the rain.

Remember to keep the fur on long-haired dogs and cats nice and tidy during the winter months. The constant wet, dry, wet, dry routine will encourage knots to form and if left too long, hot spots will follow
