Parasite Prevention Products

Keeping your pet protected from parasites in one of the most important steps in maintaining their long-term health.  Parasites such as fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal worms can cause serious illness; but the good news is that they are easy to prevent with the right products.

At our clinic, we offer a complete range of veterinary-recommended parasite control options for dogs and cats.  Our team can help you choose the safest and most effective solution for your pet's lifestyle.

Heartworm Protection for Dogs

Heartworm is spread by mosquitos and can cause severe lung and heart damage.   In Victoria, dogs are most at risk of contracting heartworm.  Cat risk is very low and we do not routinely give heartworm preventatives to cats.

The two types of heartworm treatment we recommend are:

  • A long-acting heartworm injection which provides 12 months of continues protection against heartworms.  This ensures your dog stays protected without the worry of missed monthly doses.

  • A monthly spot-on treatment which prevents heartworm, fleas and most intestinal worms.  This needs to be given every month, without missing doses.

Flea & Tick Protection for Dogs

Fleas can live in the environment in one of their life-stages for up to 12 months.  They are deposited from other animals, even stray cats walking on your property fence borders.  Fleas cannot live on humans, however if infested, they can bite, causing red itchy lumps.

There are three types of flea and tick prevention treatment we recommend.  They are:

  • An extended-duration injectable option that offers 12 months of protection against fleas and ticks.  Ideal for dogs who dislike oral medication of topical treatments, or easy convenience for owners.

  • A tasty, easy-to-give chew that protects dogs for up to 3 months.

  • A convenient topical treatment that provides up to 6 months of flea and tick prevention.  Great for dogs who prefer a mess-free, long-acting alternative to chews or injections.

Treating with flea prevention controls flea infestations, tick attachment, and helps stop the spread of tick-borne diseases such as paralysis, Lyme disease, and ehrlichiosis (depending on region).

Flea & Tick Protection for Cats

A gentle, cat friendly topical treatment applied every 3 months.

This protects against fleas, ticks, and the diseases they can transmit - particularly important for outdoor cats or multi-pet households.

Intestinal Worming for Dogs & Cats

These tablets given every 3 months protect against the most common intestinal worms, including:

  • Roundworm

  • Hookworm

  • Whipworm

  • Tapeworm

Regular worming helps prevent digestive upset, nutrient loss, and the spread of parasites to humans - especially children.
